Infrared
(IR) technology is a much more practical approach to
wireless networking. Most handheld devices come
standard with IR capability. IR data exchange is
accomplished by beaming data over short line of sight
distances using common handshake protocol to maintain data
confidentiality. No sled needs to be attached to the
handheld device and battery life is unaffected. IR
beam devices are universal eliminating the requirement of
specialized cradles for different handheld devices.
