carry a PCMCIA modem/Ethernet card or the accessory cables needed
to connect their notebook when on the road. An infrared port and
application software is built into virtually every portable device
on the market, so why not use it! Using infrared as the computers
network interface offers the ability to transfer data at up to
4Mbps, which is significantly faster than a high-speed modem. The
second challenge is offering the guest an easy method of
configuring their portable device without the need to call for
technical support.
The built-in infrared port with its OS software
support makes setup as easy as clicking a pre-configured icon.
Furthermore, Clarinet Systems provides "ClarinetIR"TM,
a freeware short cut connection program for Windows notebooks,
Pocket PC and Palm handhelds. The EthIR LAN system provides an
easy to use high-speed connection to access the Internet, Email, a
corporate network via VPN, and printing and faxing services while
the business traveler is on the road.
The EthIR LAN infrared network access point
enables Internet access in each guest room, business center,
coffee shop, and any public location that can be shared by an
infinite number of users. System integrators will also appreciate
that the EthIR LAN system can be seamlessly integrated into the
Ethernet or 802.11b network infrastructure since EthIR LAN
supports both 10/100 Base-T and 802.11b uplink, DHCP, and network
management function.
