CLARINET SYSTEMS OFFERS SCHOOLS WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
FOR PALM HANDHELD COMPUTERS

Illinois High Schools First in Nation to Beam School Information to Students and Teachers

CHICAGO, Ill. - June 25, 2001 - Clarinet SystemsŪ, Inc., The global provider of wireless connectivity for handheld applications will provide students and teachers the opportunity to obtain any and all class related material on their Palm handheld computers through a simple process of point and connect using Infrared. Displayed in the Palm Solutions Pavilion at the 22nd Annual National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) at McCormick Place in Chicago, June 25th through the 27th, will be the latest product from Clarinet Systems, The EthIR STAR 3000.

The EthIR STAR ESB3000 uses patent pending technology to capitalize on standard OBEX and TCP/IP/PPP protocols to provide Palm handheld users a richer and more gratifying experience through the faster transfer of data. With the advent of portable handheld computers becoming the norm in business and in our daily lives, it was inevitable that the educational environment would realize that wireless connectivity on campus would enrich the learning experience of students using handheld computers.

Clarinet Systems is creating a mobile learning environment for the classrooms of today. "Educators understand that mobile handheld computers and wireless connectivity at schools can enrich the learning experience of students. Clarinet Systems is working to ensure the user experience is a great one and that schools can efficiently provide students, faculty and administrators the information they need to do their work," said Wen Chang President Clarinet Systems, Inc.

Consolidated High School District 230 Adopts Clarinet Systems and Palm Technologies Consolidated High School District 230 in Orland Park, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, started its Palm Handheld Infrared Beaming program to teach teachers about Palm handheld-based learning programs. A technology leader in the state, District 230 recognized the need to integrate mobile technology with their academic curriculum.

Not only was it important to beam in student homework assignments to be worked on at night, it was also essential for this technology to work interactively in the classroom. Once this program gained acceptance by certain teachers, the district's technology department realized that providing Palm handheld computers to its teachers and students was only half of the solution. To achieve success, there had to be a way to provide their students with wireless access to information while in the classroom. Clarinet Systems' Infrared network products accomplished that goal.

The Consolidate High School District purchased an ES208 Multiport Switch from Clarinet Systems which eliminated the need for cradles, docking stations serial cables, and local PCs. With the ES 208 Multiport Switch each student merely points his or her Palm handheld at the EthIR BeamŪ access point, and he/she immediately connects to the Ethernet network.

" With the deployment of Palm handheld computers and Clarinet Systems wireless products on campus, students can truly experience the freedom and productivity of mobile handheld computing," said Mike Lorion, Palm's vice president of education markets.

"The education environment, K-12 as well as the university level, are mobile environments. Students need a way to access real-time information about their class curriculum, school events, after school sports and even test scores. Clarinet Systems high-speed wireless connectivity solutions are without a doubt, the perfect solution for our future leaders", said Sanjeev Dua, VP Marketing and Business Development, Clarinet Systems Inc.
