Clarinet Systems Announces Release of Download ManagerÔ OBEX Application Program
Clarinet Systems, Inc. of Fremont, California (www.clarinetsys.com) announced today the release of
Download ManagerÔ, the latest edition to its suite of OBEX content development tools for
PDAs and other handheld devices. OBEX is an acronym for Object Exchange, a communications
protocol available in the IrDA (Infrared Data Association) official protocol stack and factory
installed on virtually all Palm and PocketPC PDAs (and an increasing number of IrOBEX enabled
cell phones). When used with Clarinet’s OBEX enabled EthIR LAN wireless infrared network switches,
OBEX significantly simplifies and accelerates the exchange of content between network servers
and OBEX enabled PDAs and other handheld devices.
Download ManagerÔ is a web-based server application that delivers files and data to users’
OBEX enabled PDAs and cell phones. Download Manager also includes a web-based management system for
managing EthIR LANÔ switches and the contents to be downloaded.
Clarinet Systems was the first company to envision and pioneer PDA-based infrared networking
solutions for the healthcare market in 1999. Since then, Clarinet Systems has become well known in
the healthcare & hospital, medical school & health sciences library markets for its EthIR LANÔinfrared (IR) wireless systems, which provide network access for physicians, clinicians,
staff, faculty, and students for both Palm and PocketPC PDAs. Virtually all Palm and PocketPC PDA’s
on the market have built-in infrared ports. Leading healthcare software providers such as McKesson,
Siemens Medical Systems, MercuryMD, Cerner, Patientkeeper, AccessPt., and others, all recommend or
resell EthIR LANÔ systems for the PDA/server software applications that they provide to the healthcare
market. By the end of 2003, over 200 hospitals, or
virtually all hospitals in the US that operate PDA programs, were using EthIR LANÔ systems for the
PDA network access required for these leading healthcare software providers’ applications.
Clarinet Systems will officially announce and demonstrate Download Manager in its exhibition
booth at the upcoming MLA '04 (Medical Libraries Association 2004) Show in Washington, DC.
Clarinet will occupy booth no.637 in the exhibition hall, which will be open for show attendees
from May 23 to May 25. Download Manager will be demonstrated on both Palm and PocketPC PDAs
operating with Clarinet’s EthIR LANÔ switches. Additional information about MLA '04 can
be found at the official show site:
