ST. JOHN MEDICAL CENTER IMPLEMENTS MASTERCHART PRACTICAL PORTABLE FOR NURSING VITALS COLLECTION

TULSA, OK August 16, 1999 - MasterChart, Inc., headquartered in Bannockburn, IL, recently announced that St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK is installing Practical Portable, a Windows CE handheld application. Practical Portable will allow the St. John nursing staff to capture patient vitals at bedside by entering the data into a Windows CE unit, Cassiopeia E-100, which will then upload the information directly into MasterChart's previously installed HealthFrame electronic medical record system.

Practical Portable will improve the quality of care by increasing clinical data accuracy and decreasing the time needed for vitals collection. "By entering the data into the handheld personal digital assistant, vital signs are automatically transferred into the paper record. The previous practice of capturing vitals on paper is eliminated. It's an amazingly simple and efficient way to filter out errors and save time, " said Penny Schaefer, Director of Nursing Informatics at St. John.

According to Kevin Hahn, President of MasterChart, "Practical Portable employs advanced integration and synchronization capabilities to import patient data to the EMR or other systems. It leverages Microsoft's Windows CE operating system with the capabilities of a palm-sized PC."

The nurses link to a wireless LAN via Clarinet Systems, Inc. EthIR LAN™ , an infrared network access system that allows the nurses to upload the vitals information into HealthFrame. This system enables multiple users to synchronize and access patient and vital information using the same infrared port thereby decreasing the number of PC's needed at nursing stations.

The staff at St. John Medical Center has been eagerly using Practical Portable with great success. "Our nursing staff has been enthusiastically using the Windows CE units and the Practical Portable application. They find it very easy to use and the decreased time spent recording vitals in the patient record is extremely helpful. Our nurses are very excited about the project and how this new technology allows them more time for patient care." Ms. Schaefer commented.

By using these powerful technological tools from MasterChart, the medical staff at St. John Medical Center is able to focus on the patient. "Our goal in processing information more effectively and accurately is to place our nurses back at the bedside and to help them focus on administering care to our patients." Ms. Schaefer added.

Practical Portable will make further use of the HealthFrame electronic medical records system implemented by MasterChart at St. John Medical Center. Working together, HealthFrame and Practical Portable have pushed St. John Medical Center to the forefront of patient care.
