Pinnacle Health Invests in Clarinet Systems’ EthIR LAN Infrared Network Solution
Pinnacle Health in Harrisburg, PA recently placed a large order for EthIR LAN ESB301 single-port wireless infrared network switches. The ESB301s will be dispersed throughout Pinnacle’s 4 major hospitals staffed by over 800 physicians and over 4,000 nurses and technicians.
Pinnacle Health physicians use both Palm and HP iPaq PocketPCs with their Clarinet ESB301s for network synching via the PDAccess Clinical Assistant software from Siemens Medical Systems. The flexible, platform independence of Clarinets’ EthIR LAN solution was a key factor in Pinnacle’s decision to purchase the ESB301s. Clarinets’ EthIR LAN switches enable use with any PDA equipped with an IrDA-compliant infrared port; virtually all Palm and PocketPC PDAs have IrDA-compliant infrared ports as standard factory installed options.
Both Pinnacle and Siemens were also very impressed with the functionality of the ClarinetIR software utility provided with the ESB301s. ClarinetIR makes it extremely quick and easy to set up and configure both Palm and PockePC PDAs for infrared wireless network access. This feature was a key factor in Pinnacle Health awarding the order to Clarinet Systems over competing USB-to-IR dongles attached to PCs acting as proxies for PDA network access. The competing USB-to-IR technology was comparatively slow in performance and difficult to configure.
